Forums as Email Lists

Many people don't like scanning through forums every day and prefer to receive their communications via email. MyCA Forums cater for them, and we show here how you can fully interact with the forums purely by email, except for managing your subscription.

To set up a subscription, go to the Forums and click on the Forum Subscriptions link at the top of the page. You will see a set of options such as those below, possibly a little way down the page:

The top part of this gives those forums to which you may subscribe. The bottom part gives those you are already subscribed to and from which you may therefore unsubscribe.

For each forum there is also an email address. This is the address to which you can send contributions for inclusion in the forum. You may like to make a note of these. If you send an email to this address it will appear on the forum as a new topic.

Having subscribed, any posts that appear in your chosen forum will automatically be sent to the email address with which you are registered at MyCA. If you reply to the email that post will also appear under the correct topic. If your emailer quotes the email that you have received, please make sure that you delete as much as possible, leaving only enough to identify what particular aspect

The only thing that remains is to choose the other options associated with email. At the top of this page is another box, as below:

mail2forum

Mail2Forum is the name of this part of the forum and it allows you to choose whether you receive emails as HTML or plain text. HTML means styles but also makes the emails larger and some systems (such as AOL) don't handle them well, particularly in association with attachments.

The second box allows you to choose whether to receive attachments, if they are enabled for the forum you are using, whether to simply include links in the email so you can download them subsequently, or to ignore them altogether. The latter two can be useful if you are receiving emails over a mobile phone, for instance. The other two boxes allow similar choices for images.
