Getting MyCA content by email

Contributions to MyCA are coming in at all times of the day and night. Though you can see most new contributions on the front page, there are some items that aren't published there and anyway most of us don't want to scanning the web all the time. However we do tend to scan our email regularly and it is often more convenient to get notifications this way when we are out cruising.

There are currently two mechanisms for getting information by email. One applies to the main pages of MyCA and is called Notify. The other works for the forums.

Notify

Notify sends out a single email approximately once a day containing a copy of all content that has been added or updated during the previous period. You can choose whether you just get a summary or the full version. It is also easy to switch the whole thing on and off, so that when you are cruising you are not troubled by emails you don't want.

To use Notify, click on 'My Account' in the Navigation Menu in the left-hand column. In the page that opens, click on 'my notify settings' at the top of the page. Here you can Enable or Disable Notify and choose whether you wish to receive copies of the entire content each time something is updated, a 'Teaser' (Title plus the first few lines) or the Title only. You can also choose whether or not to receive copies of comments made on pre-existing content. Remember to click on Save settings when you have finished.

Forum Subscriptions

Forum Subscriptions allow you to not only receive email copies of the actual messages posted on a chosen Forum, but to reply to those messages by email as well. Replies posted by email appear in the correct place on the Forum automatically. You can choose which forums to participate in and full details on how to use them are given in the Help file for the forums.

At the top of the Forums page there is a link called Forum Subscriptions. If you click on this you will get the opportunity to subscribe to any of the forums you wish to.

Stopping emails

We all need to do it from time to time, such as when we're off cruising. What you need to remember is that you need to stop both of the subscriptions above. For notifications, go to your account and click on Notifications and unclick the first radio box. For forum subscriptions, go the forums and click on Forum Subscriptions and reverse the process of signing up.
