An engineer selling steel factories in the Far East, the author decides to abandon the high- pressure life-style, buy a boat and sail back to Europe. This is the story of finding his boat and the subsequent journey accompanied by an ever-changing crew list from Thailand to Scotland to retrieve a buried bottle of whisky on the Isle of Arran.
RYUSEI's route took in South Africa, Brazil, Guyana, the West Indies and the west coast of North America and Canada concluding with a difficult Atlantic crossing from Newfoundland to landfall on the west coast of Ireland. There is much personal material in the text but also some useful passage notes and details of islands, harbours and anchorages.
In the end "the voyage turned out to be a mixture of fun and adventure, of romance and apprehension" all of which the writer conveys with considerable success. - CH
